Charlene Rose, LMFT
I love working with families, whether I am helping a couple transform the way they communicate and resolve conflict, helping people parent children with difficult school problems, or helping blended families. The way we feel and function at home impacts every area of our lives.
In addition to my family work, I have worked for several years with children, collaberating with schools, supporting parents through the IEP process and developing behavioral strategies in the home. While working with children is part of the picture, I have also enjoyed working with families and couples; reducing tension, increasing communication and rebuilding connections.

I believe that people have the strengths and the resources that they need to solve their problems but with life's circumstances and burdens, we sometimes forget these strengths and resources. I think that often times it takes someone from "outside of the box" to help point out these things. I also believe that change happens by creating safe environment for people to express themselves. I feel that true expression of thoughts, feelings and actions and becoming in touch with them, facilitates change. I believe that therapy should be a positive experience, and that you are the expert on your life. Its my job to help you find your way back to being the expert at your own life, so that you can create your happiness!

As a child I wanted to heal and help others. Family members recount that at 5 years old I would say "I want to be a psychologist when I grow up." Although my plan changed slightly to become a licensed therapist at the Master's level, I have been honing my helping skills for many years, in every job I have held.
As I got closer to my goal and started my Masters degree, I had a huge shift of thinking. I had seen counseling for many years as a place where people come for some expert in a suit to "fix" their problems. My world view was turned on its head. I saw how powerful it is to provide a place and the resources for people to be reconnected with their own strength and history to overcome the problems. Although I initially thought this would be a long-term process, I found that a lot of people find healing relatively quickly, in 8-20 sessions.
I have worked with people along every spectrum. I coordinated a counseling program for victims of domestic and sexual violence, provided counseling for individuals at the psychiatric hospital and their significant others, and worked as a counselor for employees of Stanislaus County as an employee assistance counselor.
As my life changed, I decided to move into my own private practice. I really appreciate the focused time I can spend with my clients, and the ability to run my business in a way that leaves energy and passion for my work with clients.
I am also passionate about supporting and training the next generation of helping professionals. I run a study/support group for over 600 pre-licensed individuals in California and provide consultation and coaching for them as well. You can learn more about this aspect of my work here.
I am licensed in California as a Marriage and Family Therapist and have been for since 2005, but I have been providing therapy to clients since 2001, I am a member in good standing of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. I am involved in my community and am constantly honing my skills to be the best therapist I can be.
